Before you start
- Access to your application’s error details and request time.
- Permission to inspect the relevant account usage; never share a complete API key.

At a glance
- A client timeout ends its wait; it does not establish server execution state.
- Do not retry ordinary POST requests indefinitely when completion is unknown.
- Keep request identifiers and timestamps, then inspect usage and side effects.
After a timeout, pressing Retry is easy. The first request may never have reached the server, or it may have completed without delivering its response. Those cases have different implications for both cost and recovery.
Keep useful evidence
Record the time, model, group, HTTP status if available and request ID. Distinguish connection failure, waiting for the first output and disconnection after partial output. A screenshot saying “failed” rarely preserves enough information.
Do not include authorization headers, complete keys or customer material in a support report. Check the integration documentation; the Chinese reference page describes the corresponding product entry. Source 2
A timeout does not report business state
A client reaching its waiting limit has stopped waiting. HTTP semantics restrict automatic retries of non-idempotent requests unless the client knows the operation is safe to repeat or can establish that the first request was not applied. Source 1
Model generation commonly uses POST. A network error alone does not make a repeat safe. Deduplication provided by a particular SDK or gateway should not be assumed for every provider route.
Partial output deserves a usage check
If streaming produced some text, preserve that output and the error, then inspect usage records (Chinese interface). Records may appear after processing finishes; temporary absence is not proof that execution or billing never occurred. Source 3
Stopping generation is likewise not a universal cancellation of charges. Check observed usage and applicable channel rules.
Give retries a stopping point
Use bounded attempts and an application-level task identifier for log correlation. Pause an automatic loop when execution state is unclear. A local identifier helps investigation but only provides deduplication if the server explicitly supports and enforces it.
If the workflow sends messages, writes records or orders something, check those effects before repeating the task. Regenerating text and repeating a business write are different recovery problems.
Test recovery separately
Use a small task without real external writes to inspect successful responses, invalid input and manual cancellation. A non-billable mock service can exercise client disconnection logic in a test environment.
No paid failure test was run for this article. The known-answer check verifies a basic response; recovery needs its own acceptance criteria. Keep successful integration and reliable failure handling as separate checks.
Sources & verification
Checked against HTTP semantics and this project’s integration, usage and interrupted-turn handling. No paid failure test was performed and no universal upstream retry behavior is claimed.
